What Can I DO to spped up my computer?????

I recently went out and bought some new computer parts and built myself a new computer as follows:

Amptron M7NCD Motherboard with nforce 2 chipset
Amd 2600xp+ processor 266mhz FSB
Nvidia GeForce 5600 Fx
Kingston 2700 ddr Memory
Westen digital 160 gb 7200 rpm har drive
Windows xp pro
dvd burner

The problem is that it runs really choppy in some games like battlefield 1942, GTA vice city, and Painkiller demo. Worst of all it wont play half of My EA games

Any suggestions??

Have you loaded the drivers that came on CD with the mobo and vid card? If not, you are using Windows drivers, and the video will be very basic.

Like if you are scrolling in this forum, the screen scolls like a real slow FPS game.

Check your os for spyware. Check your swap file. Check the AGP apature size in your BIOS. Make sure you have the latest Direct x 9a. Make sure no strange programs are starting up when you boot into windows.

Send a message via ICQ to JPMiller
Even though this is a newer install I would cover ALL the basics first...
Run Spybot and Adaware
run Regclean....
run disk defragmenter
do a Hard drive diagnostic from the manufacturers website...
make certain it is not a heat related issue.... dont just assume... check thoroughly...
run MSConfig and check whats running at startup...
download XPSmoker and do all he reccommended tweaks... uninstall windows messenger...
be thorough and dont rush through it.
Good luck

In the games, check the audio configurations. I was running really choppy in Midnight Club, and it turned out that the audio settings were turned up really high (dunno why).
