If you want the computer to do anything useful, yes.

Unless you have on-board video your not going to get anything on the monitor.

Soundcard not important.

graphics= gainward 5900 128mb ultra 1200
sound = creative audigy 2 platinum zs
mobo= intel d875pbz pro lan
case=mge uv blue acrylic

i got all the wiring sleeved. , when i put in the bay for soundblaster, it had one of those wide gray funky ide type cables.
is there a substitute you can buy. that thing kills the aesthetics.

Based on your posts, I assume you're new to building your own machines. I always advise people to just install the MB/power supply/RAM/CPU(&fan)/video card/monitor/KB/mouse. Leave all the drives and other cards disconnected.

You should then be able to boot into BIOS and check the basic settings.

Once you know the basic components are working, you can add the primary HDD and CDROM. Then install the OS. Finally, add in any other drives and cards. Make sure each component is working before you move on to the next.

Once you do it a few times, you won't have to be as meticulous - but its best to take it one item at a time on your first build.
