Generalized Questions with Little Info = Generalized Answers

Specific, Detailed Questions with Exact Info = Specific, Detailed Answers

We need the exact model of the soundcard you are referring to, before we can give you a "more specific" reply.

Odds are that it is already supported (most common soundcards are)
If you specify a specific make and model then an appropriate module can be located.

Without that information though it is a bit hard

Yeah... I'm guessing it's an ISA card, I used to have an ISA ESS 1868(?) can't remember the exact numbers as I've given it away... But, yeah... Linux should automatically recognize it, especially if it was installed when he installed Mandrake as MDK is great for automatically setting up hardware and stuff. Especially as it's been out for way longer than the OS.

Oh well...

ill suggest you try a little newer version of mandrake at least the next one it will be 8 for you..... it will be less painless to get it working..

here is the hardware compatibility list from them:

Mandrake 7.0 uses the 2.2 kernel and is painfully slow compaired to 2.4 series -as long as we are recommending upgrade why not Mandrake 9.2? -it's available for free download and if you don't have a high speed connection you might be able to go to a local colleage and get someone to download and burn a copy for you for free. You can also order CDs super cheap here --> http://cart.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/cart
