hello all ?i am still haveing trouble with my new sys. ihave an intel 865perl m/b p4@2.6 ati 9600 the sys. is shutting down after10-12 min. this is what i have set in power options/turn off monitor after 20 min turn off hard disk never/ sys.standby after 45 min. and it still shuts down in 10-12 min. i was looking in the bios setup utility under the power tab and apparently ACPI is set as default ?? it's my understanding that ACPI let's the o/s control shutdown functions is that true? if so should i turn it off and if i do will it do any damage also if i turn off ACPI should i enable the PCI PME funtion. the reason for this post is my new sys. won't wake up with the mouse/keyboard. what does PME mean?? thanks for any help merv

does it completely shut down?
What OS (operating system) are you using?
right after (or before if you can anticipate it) it shuts down, can you restart and go into bios and check the cpu temp?

i running xp pro cpu temp is 27c i have a feeling it has something to do with bios power setting acpi thing if you have a sys. similar to mine maybe you could check your bios power setting and see if you have acpi enabled or pci thanks for your reply merv ps the fans stay running but o/s sys. shuts down monitor sreen goes blank not black its like the back light is still on but no wake up have to push reset(reboot)

Define shutdown? Does it actually go through the windows shutdown operation or is the machine simple powering off?

You also have power options in control panel. Go into the power icon and select never for all, go to hibernate tab and uncheck hibernate.

it does not go thru the win. shutdown mode i took the side panel off the case the prossesor &rear fans are still running i can feel a little vibration from the hard drive so i assume it's still running the only thing not running is the operating sys.
