help needed with dvd 2 dvdr

i am a total newbie to this forum. i have looked around and this place looks nice and has friendly people.

my problem is, i have a liteon dvd burner 8X write and 4X re-write and i am getting glitches in the movies i back up.

the system i am using is a 2.8 ghz pentium with 512 ram 80 gig hd. i use dvd srink to rip srink and re-author the dvd. i stop the burn before nero can burn for dvd srink. i run the dvd srink files through nero recode (to try an smoth any glitch) then burn with nero. i use memorex dvd+r 4X.

my questions are,

1, i have the dvd burner set as slave in the 2nd port. do i need to make the dvd burner the master?

2, when i first installed this burner it was burning at 8X, and i did not have these glitches. now it is burning at 4X and i have glitches and lock ups. is there any patch or setting that will let this burner burn at 8X again.

Where are the glitches? Are you talking about when you are playing the movie back in your DVD-Rom or in a box top player or something else? I have found when bruning at 4X or higher it causes some DVD players to studder when playing the DVD. This normally only happens on the older players and slowing down the burn process to 2X or lower normally helps, assuming this is the problem for you but you did say you were burning @ 8X without troubles.

I have my plextor dvd writer set as primary and dvd reader as slave...

I use dvdshrink, reauthor, and backup to the dvdr using the built in support for nero..

I don't understand why you have to stop the burn process... you should let it go through.

Check the settings on dvdshrink before you start to backup.

phenious, the glitches are towards the middle to the end of the dvd. the picture freezes and cant get by it. i am using a dvd player on the television. the ones i burnt at 8X seem to play better than the ones burnt at 4X. i am going to try and burn one at 2X and see if that solves the problem.

droppyale, i changed my burner to master and the second drive as slave. i was burning straight through with dvd srink and nero, then i started geting frame lock ups. the reason tried i stopping dvd srink before it burns to disk with nero, is i tried to use the re-code in nero6 to elimante the freezes. in effect i tried to use dvd srink as the ripper and remove the protections, then recode with nero and burn.

i will let you all know how it goes at 2X. <fingers crossed>

always make the DVD burner the master and do NOT put another device on the other channel of the IDE....

sixpac, i thought i should have set the dvd burner as the master to begin with. i have it set right now.

thanks guys. i set the burn speed at 2.4 and though it takes a while it is making good backups.
