Cd-rom Auto Start

If anyone has the knowledge to help, I would be most grateful, as I have just removed Windows ME and replaced it with XP, so am a little unsure of the system.

With CD-Roms which do not auto start, my Hitachi DVD/CD-ROM displays the following error message when I try to open the ROM manually by double-clicking the (D icon in 'My Computer'...

'Windows cannot find start.exe

This program is needed for opening files of type 'File'.
Type in the executable file to be used instead:

...(then the standard box with a c:\)"

Is this a problem with the config. settings of my DVD/ROM device, or are discs displaying this message lacking an executable file to start the discs?

When I use another avenue i.e I 'open' or 'explore' the afore mentioned discs, they do have an 'autorun' file, but the PC just doesn't seem to be able to find this with a double click.

Any help on this from anyone reading would be a god send.

Thank you

try double clicking or right click and "open" on the autorun file.

Thanks for the input.

I have clicked on the autorun file - it results in a notepad document which says 'open = contents start.pdf'

..and that's it!

NB: I can open the files by 'exploring' the disc, and opening them that way, but I wanted to know...

If this is a problem with the config. settings of my DVD/ROM device, or are discs displaying this message lacking an executable file to start the discs?
