Cat5 Wiring Question

What is the difference between T568B abd T568A standards?

Which is the proper "standard" way to wire up a home?

I'm running cable from different room to a patch panel in a centralized area. I want to make sure that I am wiring it correctly.

How should I be wiring it?

This is how I did one
Is this right?

Blue-White.........5
Blue...................4

Orange-White....1
Orange..............2

Green-White.......3
Green.................6

Brown-White.......7
Brown.................8

No thats not right.
I always do 586B which is 1white orange 2orange 3whitegreen 4blue 5whiteblue 6green 7whitebrown 8brown.
I cant remember what 586A is but i think its just the orange and green ones are switched around. As long as you use the same standard either a or b on both ends it will work and you can use both types in a network.

568A/B either is correct. "B" is the preferred as there is less chance of "cross-talk". Keep in mind that each pair of twists have a different amount of twists per inch, and that is what helps to eliminate "cross-talk". The actual "color combination" or order of the wires must be identical on each end regardless of which ones you use. It's just that 568A/B are the most perferred due to less interference, best performance, etc.

while technically true it is a bad idea not to follow the standard color scheme. If nothing else, why learn it the wrong way? More importantly though, future attempts of troubleshooting or repair will likely be hampered because of non-standard scheme Especially if another person works with it; or you learn it correctly some time later and have to come back and check/fix this it will slow you down.

I used B on my network, since that is the more common one. Use A on one end and B on the other to get a crossover cable.

true, never thought of it that way, just be sure your not using 100baseT4 or it won't work as a crossover

I DID IT!!!

I got finished wiring my entire house!!!
Now I can hook up computers all over the freak'n place!

That had to of been the biggest pain in the arse though. I hate crawling around up in the attic. It only took me about 2.5 hours though. I did 7 drops.

Thanks for the help!
