Anyone able to extract info from BIN file on recovery CD?

While looking at a Compaq Presario that was modified by someone so that the recovery CD no longer recognizes the PC Hardware, I was trying to get original drivers out of the recovery CD. But..., there's always a butt, the propietary CD is showing only *.bin files. Two to be exact.

I have never heard of *.bin as a compressed file format. Has anyone else? And if you have, do you know of a way to extract files from a *.bin?

Most of the .bin files I've are paired with .cue files for a cd image, but that doesn't sound like the case here.........seems like it would be easier to just download the drivers from compaq's website as they have drivers associated with the models of pc they were in.......I know some of those disks have compressed files that are password protected also..........hope this helps....

head to www.download.com and do a search for winrar... i'm pretty sure it will be able to open up the BIN file and you can browse the files or just extract everything.

more likely binary program files accessed by booting from cd. make sure boot from cd is enabled ahead of your hard drive in the bios and reboot with the cd in the drive.

Actually yes, it is a bootable CD. I was just wondering if there was a way to get the info out from within Windows....???

Compaq is a great company, I wonder why they're not doing business anymore? Their Proprietary BIOS is just the best, eh?

Speaking of which, anyone have any luck flashing a new BIOS onto the old Presario's?

You're kidding right? Some folks refer to them as Compukes. IMO this is a lot closer to the truth.

I remember reading a comment about someone flashing their compaq bios... I think with a Gigabyte™ Flash. I wanna flash mine too.

Not doing business... where have you been? HP and Compaq merged to become one of the world’s largest IT companies

Although I don't like their home computers, they make great servers and business computers.

As for the bin, this program may also work for you... daemon329.exe

Is that anything like Daemon344.exe?

Now that you mention it, I see the folly in my statement about Compaq not doing business anymore. Maybe it was just 'wishful thinking'. It's just that their homebrewed BIOS, MoBo's, and other stuff is frustrating.

Does HP offer any diagnostic tools for PC Techs? Or do you have to work in house to see that stuff?

yes

As for diagnostic tools... the servers have special software but I don't know about the others.
