PLEASE HELP with display problem on HP nx9005

Hello,

I have an HP nx9005 laptop that I am testing for my school as a student network admin. He wants me to use it with limited rights for a week to see how much I can and can't do with these rights. So yesterday, I go to hook up dual monitors, and the system FREAKS OUT, and goes to 640x480 4bit color. When I try to change this back, it gives me a blue sceen that says "A problem has been detected blah blah" and it reboots. THis is really a pain, and I can't even re-install graphic drivers. I think it may be the display itself. Any ideas?

Have you tried going into safe mode and see if you can undo what you did?

Yes, in safe mode it wont let me change the settings. When I tell it to enable vga mode in bootup, i get at least 32bit color, but only 640x480, and if i try to change anything, it goes back to 4bit color.
