Using PS2 network adaptor with SBC dsl modem

I am trying to get my PS2 online. When my dsl modem (SBC) is hooked to my computer, the ethernet lite on the modem is lit. Should it also be lit when my PS2 network adaptor is connected to the dsl modem? My ethernet lite currently does not lite when I hook in the PS2 so I am wondering if I may have a bad network adaptor.

does the PS2 adapter have an uplink port with a switch to change it to use a crossover cable or strait cable? Or does it just use a crossover cable?

No the PS2 adapter does not have an uplink switch. It just uses a straight thru ethernet cable

If it was a switch or a hub with no uplink port, it would use a crossover cable.

The switch on an uplink port just changes the uplink port to a regular port

No. Let me tell you my complete set up. I have sbc dsl with a straight tru cable from the dsl modem to a router. From the router, I have a two straight thru cables going to two seperate computers (sharing the dsl connetion). Each of these two connections illuminate their own lite on the router indicating there is a ethernet connection. Its a 4 port router so I have 2 ethernet lites lit. When I plug my PS2 into the router, its ethernet lite does not lite on the router (like the computers do). That is why I am wondering if I have a bad ethernet adapter on the PS2. Anyone have any comments? Usually an uplink switch is used on stackable hubs (as far as I know).

Swap the nic from one of the pcs if possible, that should eliminate the nic.

dont understand white. There is nothing to swap because my comuter nics work OK. Also I just need to know if the nic from the ps2, which is different from a comuter nic, should lite the ethernet lite on the router when plugged in.
