ATI Stills Gallery only works some fmts?

I have been using a Radeon 7200 for a few years - I like the input & output features, and the Multimedia Center has been very useful, using the Stills Gallery to save screenshots.

2 things have happened in the last couple of weeks, without any other changes I can think of:

1) Video in has simply stopped working... says 'no driver'...
** FOLLOWUP - after uninstalling all, & installing new 8.9 MMC drivers from just 2 weeks ago, it works fine now...

2) Stills Gallery no longer works on WMV or some other files. It works with MPG and (some) AVIs - although I have no idea why some do and some don't...
I don't get an error message - it just doesn't drop a screen cap on the Stills Gallery.
As noted above, I upgraded to 8.9 this morning, no change...
Used to be that anything that played in the File Player, would work in the Stills Gallery... do I need to go back to version 7.5 ???
*Running XP Home on a 2.6GHz clone, 512 RAM...

**Is it possible that Windows Update upgraded something behind-the-scenes that affected this? I have been using Windows Update fairly regularly...
