network everywhere router win 2000

I have windows 2000 and bellsouth westell modem. The router I have had for a month and it was working just fine. Bellsouth is the one that helped me set it up to beginingg and of course now say they cant that I have to have their router, which wasnt offered to me and I was told they didnt have a router! Anyway dsl is ran through a phone line as u might know and i unhooked it directly fromt he phoneline to hook another phone up. When i hooked the dsl back up it would not work and after being ont he phone with several so called bellsouth techs to no avail it still does not work.
When i hook the modem to the router to try and set it up through the cd set up, it says that there is no connection. The tech from bellsouth that helped me the first time took me through network everywhere's web site and all. The person also explained that if the modem was ever reset it would lose the router settings. The modem had to be reset to get it to work at all even when hooked straight through the computer. Needless to say it has lost the router settings and of course now bellsouth is not willing to help me connect it back up! The company themselves I have no clue on how to contact them. I know they have a website and a contact there but how can i hook the router up if i cannot call them!! lol Anywhoooo if anyone can help me with this or has a number i can contact anything at allll please let me know thanx

OK i think i have it fixed im online anyway. so here is how i done it incase any of u run into this probelm.
i had the modem connected straight to the computer first off. i went to bellsouths ip site which is 192.168.1.254 . It will most likely ask you for a user name and pw which is the one u use with bellsouth. on the right there is a list of things u can click on i clicked on expert mode. and then on configure then on connections and the probelm was that it was set on bridged ethernet. it should be on pppoe. then i went to run typed in cmd. after that opened i typed in ipconfig /release. it done its thing then i typed in ipconfig /renew and here i am loll see simple huh !!! not if u have no clue what ur doing lmao

Welcome to the forum!

I have the same modem I think...(too lazy to go look)

Anyway, there is a setting inside the modem that has to be changed if you use a router...in other words it is set one way for going straight to the comp and then another way for going to a router.

So what you have to do is hook the cat5 cable stright from the modem to the computer and "sign in" to the modem....usually by going to your address bar and typing in 192.168.1.1 and then the name is usually "admin" and the password is "password"...but you can look these up on their site probably etc.

Anyway, there is a setting but I cant remember the name.......maybe it is called "bridge mode" or something like that.....if you go straight to a comp the westell sort of acts like a router itself so it is set to another setting..but I think if you go to a router you set the westell to "bridge mode"

so you hook straight to the westell modem to set it to bridge....then you hook from the westell to the router and then to the comp from the router etc.

Too bad your isp is being gay like that...mine help me set my router up etc...I told em straight up that was what I was going to do....I suppose they want you to buy one of their routers, lol.
