new phone service through cable?

hi, my cable company is now offering a flat $34.95 rate service for unlimited local, regional and long distance calls. the price is a bit less than what I currently pay for my regular phone bill.

Do you guys think this is a good technology to transfer over to? What things are there to watch out for, what disadvantages are there?

I'm trying to help my dad decide. Thanks.

Been on Cox cable phone since it came out and I haven't looked back.

Plus with the combo of services I save even more money on internet, phone, and tv.

Go for it.

I have had phone service through the cable company in the past and it worked great. The only problem I had was in the beginning, my old phone company took several days to switch the connection over to the cable company.

Currently I have no land lines. I use a cell phone as my primary phone.

I would do it again.

My parents both have cellphones but they want something for the house and the existing plan they have is still quite a bit with all the fees the phone company tacks on for call waiting, etc. and the 10 cents a minute for the occasional long distance calls made from the house.

The service that our cablevision offers currently gives you a new phone number which isnt really an option for us since we want to keep our old phone number. The cox service seems interesting but I dont know if it is available in our area, plus it is a tad more expensive the service is probably superior. However, I dont know if we want to change our cable tv, internet service.

I guess it's just the idea of lowering our telephone bill expense if we dont really need it, we have cellphones etc. Thanks for the help guys.

I ran telephone over my cable for a while.
I was not impressed.
The quality was less than my standard phone line, and I got a LOT of cross-talk (constantly heard other voices in the background).
Since then, I have just gone wireless and given up all land lines...
