Systems Having Trouble With Burned DVD Movies

Hello,

I recently burned a couple movies on my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D for my mom, and I'm having certain trouble with each.

(please note: that I'm new to the DVD burning scene, so please forgive me if I ask typically newbish questions)

Software: Nero 6 Ultra Edition, TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVDShrink

Anyways, I made the MPEGs into the 4g limit, and I went about recording them with Nero. Then, I tested them out on my DVD player on the computer, and of course they played just fine.

So, I went to my moms house and proceeded to play them for her, and it didn't go so well

The first DVD (Kill Bill) played, but it flickered unmercifully, and was black & white. The 2nd DVD (Cold Mountain) just didn't play. Period.

What am I doing wrong? What should I be looking for specifically so this doesn't happen again, and so I can fix it?

Thanks for the future help

some dvd players aren't compatible with certain dvdrs.

go here and check the compatibility of the dvd player.

yeah check her DVD player for what it supports, Also, are you sure that the video that you burned is in DVD Video format which is Mpeg2 and not a Mpeg format or something else? If it is in a different unsupported format it would explain all the crazy lines and colors and flickering. Do the DVDs play properly on the computer?

I don't have an answer for you. But I can tell you that you are using very good programs. I use the same ones for all my dvd dubs. I don't think its the programs, when I've got something wrong with any part of the process the programs let me know.

Probably ntsc/pal incompatibility, macrovision?region?-incompatibility, dvdr brand incompatibility.

Does she have some older high end sony or something player?
Or some noname chinish 'play-them-all' player.
