randomly reboots
Hi, My Labtop (Twinhead, model: A09T5) shuts down all the time. Before it shuts down, there will be a blue screen saying some thing about "Disable any newly installed hardware"; "faulty or mismatch memory"; "dump physical memory" I didn't instally any new hardware!! Originally I have win ME, and I try install win 2000 and Xp they all have the same problem. Also if I use 2000 or Xp, my modem doesn't work, and my sound card has to reboot once to make it active. I don't know if it's because I have a HD problem, or memory Problem or over heat problem. Please help me!! Thank you So much!
Win XP
192 MB ram
750Mhz

It could be a memory problem, HD problem, or simply Windows is corrupted..
have you tried repairing windows?
testing your memory?
running diskcheck?

Actually I just reinstall my WinXp. So I don't think that's the problem. However, I don't know how to test my HD and my memory. I took out the extend memory and try to run it. It still reboots. I can't find "scandisk" in WinXp!! so i don't know how to do scandisk!!

Welcome to TechIMO!!
You need to boot into Recovery Console with the XP CD and run:
chkdsk - It will often times say nothing is wrong.
A more intensive test is chkdsk /p.
If it finds errors run chkdsk /r

I'm having a similar prob on my tower, that gets very limited use as a second PC. (Athlon 1.33 on an Asus AM7266 board).
Started out as a shutdown prob - PC would just reboot. Then I would get a three beep error code, and my screen would go black. Video error?? Hmm. . .never a problem before. BSOD - (I thought Bill G "promised me" this would never happen w/ Win XP!).
Anyway, in reference to the above - I did a WinXP repair, ran Windows Memory Diagnostics from a floppy, also Memtest 86+.
Everything checks out. Seems to boot fine. Everything seems to work OK. Only now it won't shut down w/out giving me the BSOD, with not much useful info there. I've upgraded chipset and video drivers, looked at the Events Log, but no shutdown info. Ran CHKDSK - everything OK.
Disabled MS Services in msconfig - no good. However it will shut down in Safe Mode. So it must be a driver or app?.
Feifei - press F8 during boot up to get into safe mode, and see if your system will shut down from there like mine does.
Others will be to our rescue shortly. Thanks for the suggestions Droppyale.

If you haven't set a password, how do we get into the Recovery Console when it asks for an Admin password? Thanks.

Have you checked for the Mydoom virus?
Just a random thought.

Don't know about Feifei, Bill, but I ran AVG that was up to date as of 1/29, and everything was clean. ( This box is on a dialup, and rarely used - I really need to network w/ my main cable modem PC! ). So this box hasn't been connected to the internet in months.
Don't know why, but I can't just hit <Enter> for the RC password - it just says "invalid password," and I can't get any farther.
(Feifei- I'm sorry, I don't mean to steal your thunder, here. Just looks like we're having a very similar prob, that I was going to Post very soon anyway).
Thanks.
- Bill
