PS7 and pagemaker help needed fast

ok got this from a friend of mine he's running xp on the workstation and win 2000 on the server...from what I understand he has no issues copying the files just getting them to work in pagemaker. He's using EPS JPEG and TIFF images. He's added all the l;atest updates for all the necassary apps. I'm waiting for the actual computer specs right now but he might not have them available

I just got a new computer at work, and use pagemaker to lay out the magazine,( i know quark is better but we have been using this for awhile and don't need to change right now due to deadlines)
I'm having a issue placing images that I have saved from photoshop 7 and want to place in pagemaker 6.5... I keep getting an error saying, this file is in use by another user, or invalid data, and It will freeze my program prompting me to end the program.... (all these images are saved to a server)......no one has the file open, I close photoshop to place the images, and sometimes when i place an image the image is distorted with thick vertical lines not even resembling the actual image, I printed it and it works fine... I even downloaded updates from Adobe, re-installed both photosop and pagemaker, still have the problem, ... I have tried just about everything...... my computer tech, says it could be the graphics card, because the computer uses memory to copy the image and to place it, resulting in problems with pagemaker.... it almost sounds like a networking problem to me..... anyone got any ideas?

He might try opening the images in a generic progam, from the local machine (like MS Paint), then 'save as', rename them, save them to a local file (as .jpg), them try to place the newly saved images from the local file. See if that solves the issues.

I hate doing these third pseron things there is too much info I don't have to really help him out. But from what I understand there isn't an issue with downloading or viewing the files on the local machine its only when he tries to place them into pagemaker. I got him to stop trying to insert them directly from the server and that fixed part of the problem but the other issue leads me to believe that he is either having issues with memory or with one of the programs/apps involved. He isn't the most computer proficent person so i'm having a hard time getting info from him.

I know very little about using pagemaker just figured someone might have some insight I might not know of. Like I said it kinda hard to do these things third party when dealing with someone thats not quite up to "geek" status

Both, very true. Sounds like you have done what I suggested already. Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe if we had some more stats.

Good luck
