Hellow!
Can someone help me with my computer? I have a Toshiba 4000CDS Sattelite Laptop computer. The monitor doesn"t come on.
Here is a history of the problems and the machine"s specifications.
Specs: Intel Pentiun II 233 MH CPU with 512Kb and 1MB caches; 160MB RAM, 30 MB of which is 'on-board'; 3.5' floppy; CD-ROM Drive (read only); an upgraded 10 GB HD (Seagate, I believe); USB, parrallel, serial, ports; two PCI expansion slots (empty) PS/2 mouse port, keyboard 'eraser' mouse, Infra red (ibelieve for LAN); there's also an external monitor connection.
The machine originally came with Windows 95/98 Preloaded on a smaller HD. The user had the option of systems to choose, at the expense of the other. It also came with 2 CD's called by Microsoft their "Recovery Disks" for 95/98.
HISTORY
When I got the machine 3 months ago, it wouldn't go any further than a few HD clicks and the CD going . There was no moniter activity or light.
After I took it apart, tried to start it 50 or more times I disconnected everything and left it for amonth. On reassembly, awarm-uo, Iturned it on and Windows 2000 Pro came on. The first thing, though was Verizon's request for credit card payment for ISP. This came on automatically. I tried for 1/2 hr to get it off, rebooting several times, always ending at the same place..Verizon wanting sign-up payment. I don't even have a modem!
Well, I took the Recovery disk and put it in the CD. (it is a 2 dsk set) It asked if I would like Win 95 . I said yes. The machine reformatted the drive but then when it was loading the OS it said it couldn't load Command.Com. Therefore, no OS!
I turned off the machine, rebooted, and the screen came on asking if I would like Win 95 installed? I said no, hoping to get around this mess and there was a loud click and the monitor went blank. This was abou a week ago and dispite several attempts 50 or more reboots, acouple pf disassembes/reassemblies the machine still gets no screen. I got Linux and tried to load that OS, but no luck..no screen.
I believe this is part of business computer design implementation of security/safety features. The Machine is a good one, but how to get it to go.
Sincerely,
