Freakin Netscape - Bahhhh!

I had to uninstall Netscape 7.1 because of issues with AIM trying to connect when I opened Outlook Express.

Saved all of my profiles and cleaned up all the folders and reigstry stuff and then when everything was cleaned up I re-installed Netscape 7.1

Mind you I rarely use Netscape for browsing - mainly for email becuase I like the user profile interface.

All of my profiles re-installed without a problem ...... * drumroll please * ................. except for one.

This one can't access the iternet but I can send and receive email, have all of my messages from before, and have my address book. Just can't connect to any site.

No problem says I. I'll set up a new profile and copy the email stuff over the into the profile. Inbox to inbox etc.

Great now I can access the internet but everything else is gone even though the mail folders show a lot of data in explorer.

Opened with wordpad and the messages are there.

Unless somebody has a great remedy * please please * I guess I may end up going with the original and export the address book, forward all my email to me ( which I don't want to do ), delete the profile and files, and setup a new profile.

Crap!!

Bill

One advice, stay away from Netscape, use Mozilla instead. Or even Opera. Netscape is old and buggy. IMO of course.

I hear you Dan but the thought of forwarding over 400 hundred sent and received emails bums me out.

Bill:

I wish I had an answer . . . alas I do not.

I truly do feel for you! You know as well as I that time cannot be replaced. When that priceless commodity is wasted on tedium, it hurts.

I use Netscape for important browsing where dollars are exchanged across cyberspace. Perhaps I suffer from a false illusion that Netscape is more secure than the Microsoft product (what isn't?) which I use only for general browsing. Opera is "eh" ... nothing to write home about. I suppose it is all right though sometimes I have difficulty interfacing with it. One of those intangibles that I cannot put my finger on.

Interestingly with Netscape 7.1, I cannot figure out how to properly configure my DSL account in the mail component, otherwise I would enjoy using it for that purpose.

Good luck & condolences.
