I may need to get a new mobo and I know the stuff on my old one will work on new mobos. I just have a question of my proc. It's a P4 1.6 GHz 400 FSB. The board I wanna get says the lowest chip it supports is a P4 1.60A Ghz. Is that the same as the chip I have now? What does the "A" mean? I'm assuming it should work because it's a p4 and it says it supports p4.
A is a P4 NORTHWOOD only available as s478.... It has more L2 cache then Willy. Williamette came in BOTH 423 and 478 to 2gig. Then Northy came out-Northwood A. Which same fsb but more L2 cache. B northy upped the fsb one notch. And then C did so again. No diff between the northys but FSB. After -C enter the prescott.
I think what everyone means to say is yes it will work. , and where did you read that thats the lowest it will support? It will support anything in the 478 form (MAYBE excluding some higher end prescott cpu's)
