VX2 betterinternet spyware

OK, VX2 betterinternet keeps popping up when I run ad-aware and I keep trying to delete them but every time I scan they always come back. I got the 2/24/2004 update for adaware and still, no joy!

Does anyone know a way I can get rid of this thing completely?

Well I've tried spybot and adaware and they still keep coming back everytime I restart.

There is a msg118.dll file that adaware can't delete and doesn't delete when it restarts.

I'm lost!

Looks like adaware and spybot wont kill this if its fully installed on your computer. Its apparently one of the most tenacious malware programs thats been released to date.
Some of the folks here seem to have had a measure of success dealing with it. http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread....760/qid/666236

Another way to get rid of it if none of that works, is to boot your computer using Knoppix browse through your windows drive and delete the msg118.dll file.

This thread was about one of my computer's. I was able to get rid of this using the link Mead attached. I found the easiest way for me was to take the Master HDD out and install it as a slave into my other computer. I was able to delete it using it as a slave since it was not being used to run any OS. I replaced the drive into the original computer and reran Adaware and was finally able to delete the 2 remaining registry folders. Thanks for your help Mead, I am going to keep that site in my favorites list.

This thing was pretty ugly look out for the "msg118.dll" file good lord. Also the thing that gave this virus away was that fact that it took forever to load into windows. I mean about 15-20secs longer than when I finally removed it. So if you are getting into windows slower watch out.

Good work! Did you come up with the HDD slave idea yourself or was that on the site?
