Running applications for HD with knoppix

I have a simple question- Is it possible for me to install and run linux applications from my hard drive in knoppix?

Yes I beleive it is, as long as you have a Linux writeable partition eg FAT32/16 or a Linux Partition, or pretty much anything but NTFS.

Also, is it possible to run windows applications using wine? I've tried it and I get stack overflow error messages. I dont know enough about it to configure it either

I would not count on WINE. Wine can work sometimes. If you want an easily configurable version get codeweavers wine, www.codeweavers.com

That being said, I would use linux alternatives if possible. There are plenty of functional and useful alternatives. Some applications you may need, I use crossover office as MS office makes it MUCH easier for me to type in a foreign language and set my own keybindings. It also doesnt freeze when I print like some other office suite.

What applications do you plan on using from windows?
