? on Motherboard offsets

My son is changing cases for his system.

I walked in just in time to tell him he had to use the offsets that came with the case.

Question:

Where do the washers go?

Between the case and the offsets

or

Between the screws and the motherboard on top?

Bill

Examine the heads of the screws that you will use to secure the motherboard to the metal standoffs under the screw-in mounting holes. If the head of the screw is large enough that after tightening the screw the head might make contact with the circuitry on the motherboard, you must use a plastic or paper washer under the screw head to prevent accidentally shorting out the motherboard. Most motherboard manufacturers are smart enough today to leave a little extra space around the mounting holes.

I cheated and found this info here

I've found 98% of the time I don't need the washers. Recently I installed an old PC Chips board in an old eMachine case. [I know, junk on junk] anyways it wouldn't fire up until I re-installed the board with the washers. I think it is the first time I've used them.

I agree with elroy, I haven't used washers one time ever since I started messing with computers.
If I get some, I use them on my thumb screws so the paint don't get too scratched

Got it.

I can't believe this is the first time I came across these.

Well, it is the first new case I've (my son) bought in about 7 years.

Thanks,

Bill

A tip for future reference: if you get a board that just won't fire up in the case. Many boards come packed with a thin piece of foam stuff under the board. Install the board with this sheet of foam behind it. Totally insulates it from everything.
