O.S. freezes...

Every time I insert a CD or DVD in my DVD rom drive, the operating system freezes. If I reboot with the disk in the drive everything works. Any ideas on what is causing this? Any solutions?

What OS is it?

Do you have burning software on it?

If so, I would check and make sure 'InCD' (nero) or "DirectCD" (roxio) are turned off.



Do you just have one cd-rom...if you have 2 does it do the same in both?

When you restart and its ok, can you then click on the cd in my computer and read the cd?


If worse comes to worse, install windows over top of itself..by starting windows install from within windows.

I'd try removing the drive from Device Manager first and let Windows detect and re-install the drive first.

For some reason....INCD and Direct CD can wreak havoc at times
