Problem with old dos games

Hello to everybody, I just registered to this community and hope you can help me with this problem.
I have a Asus notebook with a SISm650 graphic board, Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM and Windows XP Home. I tried to run some old games and I have some graphic problem, for example:

1) Warlords 2: screen flickers, there are scanlines on screen and image is continuosly moving on screen, nothing is well visible

2) Magic Carpet: if I set high resolution during game, I see screen not well centered on monitor, but it is shifted down, so that a part of the screen is not visible (this is a general problem with all DOS games using high resolution)

I tried to run games with VDMSound, also enabling VESA 2.0 support, but nothing happens. I can play them using DosBox, but in this way Warlords 2 has no music (another strange fact, cause digitized sound is fine) and Magic Carpet runs fine but obviously slow.
Perhaps someone also has encountered this matter?
Asus and SIS tech support was not able to responding.

Thanks for your help!
Bye Bye

I think there is a patch somewhere that you have to download and it should work. I heard it worked on some DOS games but I don't know where to get it.

I have some problem playing with old MS-DOS game too, eveytime i run the game (on Window XP) the MS-DOS will just shut itself down. I then tried to run the old Quake, (Still my favorite!!) and it will not work anymore. So.. is it Window XP that should take the blames??

Hi FPSCrazy.
I don't know if you have the same problem I have. However, did you try to run old games using VDMSound. You can find this utility at

http://ntvdm.cjb.net

And for Quake I suggest you to try to use WinQuake, GLQuake or D3DQuake. Try to search them with a Google (I don't remember a correct site).

Bye!

Oh, well, actually I have again some problems!
Infact even if I use VDMSound, when I play on SVGA resolutions different from standard 320x200, I see that strange problem!....

However, hope I can be of help for you.
Bye!
