XP Pro on old machine

Hello

I have upgraded an old PC (P3 800) from Windows ME to XP Pro. Now, whenever I connect any USB device, the machine locks. I think the ports are USB1 and XP is expecting USB2, does anyone know of this type of problem when installing XP on older machines?

Thanks

Paul

I was reading over at the MS knowledge base about issues - go have a look - just search for the issues.

pianoman - check your bios - make sure its is enabled - and get your MB drivers - and don't forget the print the report if you go to upgrade old equipment to new opsys's

the XP report - at least tells you what you'll have to fix

Dunno about XP Pro, but XP Home works fine with USB 1 (that's all I have on my two machines).

Make sure the ports are enabled in BIOS.

Do you have SP1 installed on your machine? Are we talking about USB 1.1 or USB 2.0? If so this could be the problem + solution.

Check windows update for a critical update. I seem to remember one about USB.
