Quicktime download question

Whenever I attempt to download quicktime player, I receive a message stating that: "Your current security settings prohibit activeX controls on this page. As a result, the page will not display properly." I cannot get the download to start. The next page bluntly says: "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."

I checked my settings and set the activeX ones to "enable", set the security to low, restarted my machine, and a few other long shots all to no avail.

The support site is absolutely useless and doesn't even have an email page to as the tech a question. Talk about horrible customer service.

The spec of my machine is well above the minimum requirements for the program too (3.2 P4, 1024 RAM, ATI 9800 AIW GC, etc...). My OS in Win XP Pro.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas what could be the barrier and how to amend the issue?

Thanks,
Gary

Its possible there is another version already installed but a bad install

Check the currently installed activex controls

in IE go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Settings button --> "View Objects" button

Make sure there isn't an entry for quicktime in there.

I don't see it here.

I see: Update class, Java Runtime Envirnment 1.4.2, Microsoft WinRep (???), Live365Player Class, Shockwave Flash Object, and Rdlxe Class.

Not sure what some of these are.

Thanks for the quick reply vass0922.

Open IE, from Menu Bar go to Tools... Internet Options, click on Security tab, your current "Web Content Zone" should be highlighted, then click "Custom Level" buttons and scroll down to the Active-X section... see what your settings are at.

BTW, I'm assuming you are not clicking on a link in an email, while inside Outlook Express... are you?

I had set them all to enable when is was trying to download the program.

The download was from the Quicktime website to the HD, not from email.

Do you think a restricted site could disallow the download?

Thanks,
Gary
