A really irritating characteristics of Win

Hey all,

I'm using win XP and as my title says it's pretty easy to keep the list of irritating stuff going about windows. One things I don't understand that's driving me crazy is that I have an external HD (or for that matter anything dealing with storage or transfering stuff) with a USB connection and before you can "disconnect" the drive you have to click the stupid icon for stopping whatever it is that's connected. Well, I go to do it and it gives me a message that says, "cannot stop now, try again later" (what it should say). It's irritating as hell and some times works on the first or second try. Do I have to live with this? Thanks for your help

Nick

All of the computers at school run windows XP, although im on 98 at home. I have a USB jump drive that i use all the time to move programs and information, and when I'm done using it on the XP machine, I usually just pull it out. Windows gives me that little temper tantrum that I didnt "stop" it first, but it hasnt caused me to lose any data on my drive. I would assume that the HD would be the same since it is also a USB device.

It's rare, but I've lost the data by pulling out a USB memory device without using the Disconnect method first (and I know it per it's activity light, it wasn't actively writing either).
