no cable available?

I have heard satellite is expensive on the initial install

other than that perhaps there are some issues during inclement weather?

I have never used it though or spoken to any ACTUAL users....I have just heard stuff...maybe it is similar to sattelite cable as far as weather issues etc...foggy nights maybe. I dunno.

I don't have an personal expierence with satellite internet access but here is what I do know.

1) Most satellite services still require a phone line for the uplink. There are some that do both download/upload via the dish, but the equiptment AND the service charge is considerably more expensive than the already pricey setup.

2) Bandwidth isn't bad, but latency is... So playing online games might not be very practical.

like with my dsl, i download at 150 k/s upload @ 17 k/s but my ping is 120.

Satellite tends to cost near $500 to setup, and over $100 each month. Taht is NOT worth it to me. I have also heard the upload is real bad with satellite, but this could be confused with ping, or just false.

I asked similar questions at the competition forums. Linked here was what I was told.

thank you-looks like the other option (wireless broadband) might be the way to go.
