Dell Monitor not working properly

I have a Dell monitor model D1025DM. It was working fine until I had to repace the HD on my PC and reinstall Win2k. Everything was working fine until it got to the hardware detection part of the install. At that point the monitor went dim, not dark, just dim.

I unpluged the monitor, moved it to another PC and it is still dim.

Whenever I touch a key on the front of the monitor, a green key shows up in the bottom left part of the display and the keys do nothing. I cannot adjust and brightness, geomertry or any other function on the monitor.

I think during the detection phase of setup the monitor was sent a video signal that it could not handle and went into a safe mode.

So, how do I get it out of safe mode?

Thanks

Not to day you are wrong, but I have never heard of setup sending a signal out that a monitor could not handle. I think that setup would use very Conservative monitor resolutions. If at all possible, I would try connecting the monitor to a different system...That being said, this could be something Dell has had built into their branded monitors that is something most of us have not seen (yet).

So, how do I get it out of safe mode?

If there is a safe mode, it would be in the BIOS on the motherboard...again, I have never had a monitor do what you are seeing. It sounds much like the high voltage has taken a nose dive...except...when a TV or monitor is run with a (low output) high voltage in its own power supply, it would also make the screen shrink in size..not just get dim...

Could it possibly be just a driver issue? Do you have the Dell driver?

I think I would go to dell support...punch in my service tag# and find all the drivers for it....especially see if it has a monitor driver.

My moms HP monitor has some different settings...but they are adjusted on the monitor itself...some are very bright and some are dimmer.

You might go to safe mode, device mgr. and remove all of the references to any monitor (default, or dell) and let it be re installed. :-)

I GOT IT WORKING!!!

It turns out that the monitor has a option to disable the front panel buttons. I do not know why it should disable the buttons on its own, but it did.

To re-enable the front panel buttons, I held down the menu button for over 2 seconds and then select enable from the on screen menu. That brought all the functions back and the monitor works fine now.

Thanks for the help!
