Window color change at times

I seem to have one more problem with my Compaq 7470.
Authentic AMD-K6(tm)3D Processor 530 MHZ.
15 gig Western Digetal Hard drive
Went from 64Mgb Ram to 184 MGB Ram.( Installed more memory - asked you all first about this in another post.) No problem with install.

Also problems with error screens has also been corrected, with you all help. Thanks everybody.

I have had a problem with sometimes when starting this computer, that when it comes into windows and the desktop is displayed, that my screen will automatically turn green. This same color appears no matter what window you may have up. You can still see everything on the screen that is suppose to be there, except the overall color has changed to green.

Tried different monitor, still same thing. Doesn't do this all the time. (Been doing this for sometime now, I know it is not due to anything that I have done in previous message problems. ) Can usually shut computer off and restart and it will be fine, other times I have to go into Display Properties-Advanced - Color Tab - and hit the load button to correct.

I sure hope your not going to tell me that the video card is going out as, this is built in somewhere on this thing (no idea where, or how to replace)

Done all testing under compacq diagnostic program and there was no errors, except in the CDRW:IDE-CD R/RW 4x4x24. And that error only appears on some disk that are put in. Some disk it reads fine. ( another problem for maybe another time) unless it has something to do with this one.

Are you talking the video drivers??? If so how do I go about getting one that is not corrupted?

Check and see if there are updated drivers for your video.

Download and install them per their instructions.

Hardly a driver problem. Much more likely, a problem in the VGA connection. If it's a BabyAT board (possible given the age), then the internal cable connecting the onboard VGA to the outside world connector may have come loose.

i agree with peter that it sounds like the cable to your monitor. try wiggling it near were it connectes to your computer to see if anything changes. this cable should not be screwed in very tight but just enough to hold in place

Checked out drivers in the control panel and I have none that is having any problems.

Also wiggled the cable to monitor and it doesn't seem to change anything. I have shut the machine off trying to get it to come up that way again, and it has not. Like I said it does not do it very often. Just once in a while, which can be upsetting sometimes.

How can I find out what the mother board is on this thing. By taking a flash light and trying to find any tags, I only see one that I can read.(Very compact in this system, most is behind the power supply ) The one that I can read says Camaro with numbers 0012 in left top corner and number 31 in top right corner.

I can't seem to find any updated drivers any way for I can not find a product number on this computer anywhere, where Compaq says it should be. The only thing I do know is that it is a Compaq Presario 7470.

Oh well I guess I should just leave it alone, unless it starts doing it alot more often. I just didn't want something going out on it if this was a warning sign of some sort for the video card, or cpu, or anything along that line.

Well my problem has seemed to increase. Is there a way that I can put another video card in this machine? I know that the original one is built into the motherboard. My system properties reads as follows: Display Adapter - Trident Blade 3D/MVP4(63), the Sound-video-game controllers - ESS Allegro-1 Device Manager, ESS Allegro - 1 Dos Emulation, Ess Allegro 1 PCI Audio Driver. Is there some way to bypass that one and install one in the white slots(not sure what they are called) from another compaq I think it is a Compaq Matrox MGA Power Graphics IS-Storm R2 9606EU038(at least that is what it reads on it). If you do not think this is advisable please let me know. I not really sure what I should be looking for update drivers for: if it is the Display adapter , or the Sound- Video -Game Controlers. I would appreciate any of your help.

I also seem to be having trouble keeping my dial- up connection alive long enough to download anything. Any suggestions? In fact I am real luck to even get on.

I have never heard anything from you since my last post on the video card issue. Was just wondering if maybe I didn't give you all enough information. So thought I would add it. The machine is a

Go to "run" on your start menu and type dxdiag and hit enter. When Direct X diagnostic loads, go to the tab that says display and click it. This will tell you what your video card is but more importantly the driver version. Look for a newer version to install. A good place to look for drivers is driverguide.com(user "driver" password "all"). If a new driver does not do the trick, you should be able to put a video card into a PCI slot(white slot). Just make sure that you have the latest drivers for whatever video card you use.
