Memory upgrade for a Compaq 7470
I have a question that pertains to memory on my
Compaq 7470
Runing windows 98SE,
15 Gig Western Digetal Harddrive,
Motherboard - no idea what it is
Processor = AMD K6-2 at 533 MHZ
Has two slots for memory sticks,
only one being used at this time. According to the System Properties it has 56 mgb of RAM. According to the Compaq Diagnostic Program it says it has a DIMM(SDRAM) 64 Megabytes in it.
My question is as follows: I have a Compaq 5700N that has bit the dust. Wanted to know if I could add the DIMM(SDRAM) 128 megabyte memory stick into slot 2 of the Compaq 7470, without causing any problems?
Does the 2 different Memory Sticks need to match in megabytes?
By the way the 64 megabyte of ram is taller in height than the 128 megabyte from the old 5700N compaq.
If I can add it - it would make the memory go up to 192 megabytes in the Diagnostic Program, and 184 megabytes in the System Properties. Not sure why the difference.
Or should I just put in the shortest (height wise) of the two with the most ram which would be the 128 Megabyte?
Would really appreciate your help on this.
I really need to reinstall a virus scanner back on to this machine, but it seemed to take up so much of the resources, that I thought that maybe an upgrade in memory would help. The Norton I had on it kept giving me error codes that I have already talked to you all about. Just wondering if the memory being so low could have been the problem.
