Installing WinXP Pro

I just purchased a new Gateway 710XL...I also still have my old Gateway that has Windows ME installed. Can I install all the new software that I received in my 710XL package onto my old Gateway Hard Drive or do I have to Format the HD in order to do so?? How can I completely clean all the information out of the HD and install the new software????

it would be illegal to do that, and it probly would not even work on the old computer.

most of the time when you buy those name brand pc's you can not install the os cd onto another computer. they lock the cd to only those brand name machines

Well...I threw caution to the wind and cleaned my old hard drive and installed WinXP Pro, the Drivers and Applications and other programs from all the Restore disk from my new computer onto my old and it is working fine so far...the only difference is the amount of memory...my old had only 20 gigs and my new has 500 gigs..quite a difference there but I basically have the same computer system..all I need now is to purchase more memory for my old Gateway and I'll have a network....
