Folder Security

I am using Win XP Pro. I have my account (admin) and another user account (limited). On the limited account I can still view the admins folders and files, how can I disable viewing the admins files and folders on the limited account?

Thanks.

Send a message via AIM to rpertusio
While logged onto the Admin account, right-click the folder you want to restrict, and click [Properties]. Then on the [Sharing] tab, click [x]Make this folder private

You'll need to have your drive formatted as NTFS. (Right-click your hard drive and see if it is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS)

Otherwise, you could control the folder security 'manually'... but be warned that you could do some serious damage if you mess with the wrong stuff. Open up Windows Explorer, and use the menu: [Tools] -> [Folder Options...]. Then on the [View] tab, scroll to the bottom and uncheck [ ] Enable simple file sharing. Now, on every folder of your computer, you will have a 'security' tab when you view its properties. The security tab will let you get in-depth with security privs.

That should get you started.

Right now my drive is formatted FAT32, can I format it NTFS without losing anything? Also isn't FAT32 better for games and stuff, or should I always use NTFS??

You can convert with little worry but sometimes stuff happens. Its rare though. To be sure backup your important stuff.

Here are the instructions

1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. Type CMD and press <Enter>.
3. At the command prompt, type CONVERT C:/FS:NTFSand press <Enter>.
(In the text above C: can be substituted by the drive letter of your choice)
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the conversion.

Yes I have done that already and it worked ok. Now my question about NTFS and FAT32. Isn't FAT32 better for games and anything other than file & folder security?

MS DOS games should be the only thing affected by NTFS. If you dont run them then I wouldnt worry about fat32.
