I would use a router with a 4 port switch and use a print server on the back of the printer and run cable to the network, add another switch if needed

The best tutorials for networking 98 and XP are at Helmig's site. Just check in the tutorials section.

You could use a print server if you had one, but sharing the printer over the network from one of the PC's will work fine, provided that PC is always on whenever any printing is to be done.

Cheers
Mick

Welcome to TechIMO!!

With my 98 and 2K setup I had to create a user name the same as my 2K on the 98 machine in order to get into the network.

Also remember to turn off the firewall on the xp machines.

And make sure the workgroup name is the same on all the machines....on XP it comes set as "mshome" as default...but on 98 it is "workgroup" so that needs to be changed....right click "network neighborhood" click properties, click "identification"

Make sure the w98 machine has no spaces in the name.

On the w98 machine...if you are going to share files you have to enable file sharing....right click network neighboorhood, click properties, then click on "file and printer sharing"

File and printer sharing is on by default in XP.

My advice is DONT RUN AND WIZARDS....I hate the xp wizards and there is no need to run them.
