cell phone internet

i just saw this at compusa
http://www.compusa.com/clearance/pro...&pfp=CLEARANCE

questions:

i have an ipaq 3955 and a motorola v60 phone, however my phone is tdma and not gsm, does that matter?

and does att offer the service needed to browse the internet over my cell phone? if so, how much extra does it cost?

anyone have any experience with something like this?

There's utilities like SnapDialer. Depends on the phone and the service. SnapDialer allows you to send data over Verizon's network using only your airtime minutes. It's not too speedy, though. 19k and below.

Im not sure what phones support what but I know the GSM phones that are new to the US are the ones that are best for web browsing with GPRS data technology. Just be carefull when using the service as they will charge you insane ammounts of money unless you get a package deal. Ive seen some that were 10 Cents per Kilobyte of data. My friend didnt know this and he had a blast messaging with a girl from college he was interested in... that was until he got a $280 phone bill. I use ATT and have the mMode plan for 1Mb of data per month for $7 this allows me to check my e-mail if needed and mayge grab a ring tone or a game but the ringtones and games eat up most of my data so I try to just get it sent from the web site if possible in an SMS or MMS

Also, im fairly certian you have to have the newer GMS phones to use the web. In the EU they call it WAP technology. I have a Motorola V60I right now but it cannot get on the web and such so I am switching to a Nokia 6800 which can

that might work with the older phone technology but from what I can tell all the newer stuf on the GPRS bills by the ammount of data you sent... so surfing text stuff like e-mails isnt bad... its just when you start downloading Pholyphonic ringtones and java apps that you get the higher bills... or text msg/chat all the freaking time like some of my friends

well being a tdma, my phone doesnt have polyphonic sounds, or cool downloadable games. and accoding to the forums at att.com there isnt a way possible with my phone.

i thought i would be able to use it as kind of a dail up modem (of course i have no clue who i would dail too....)

o well. i have some bids on ebay for CF expansion packs, and if i get one i will just buy a wifi card for use on campus (3 wireless areas)

or wors comes to worst i can drop $80 for a SD wifi card..

yeah I surf the web with my laptop in a few of my classes that are close enough to a wireless hot spot. I have seen one guy use a HP pocket PC thing with a wifi connection and he seemed to surf ok but how he could look at webpages on such a small screen is beyond me... I will mainly be using my phone for messaging and soime lite e-mailing.
