AlienWare Laptop

Ok, this may sound a bit far fetched but I was just thinkin as I was pondering the mysteries of the universe. Say you were able to get an Alienware Chassis complete with the screen, keyboard, speakers, controls, fans,everything. Couldnt you just buy all the other parts from the manufacturers and install it yourself and save oodles of money or would this be some hardcore project involving soldering and intense measurements coming down to millionths of an inch (exaggeration). I dunno, just one of my many random thoughts...

well there are some barebones laptops that include the mobo but there are very few and vrey few standard parts for them as well...it will most likley come out to being more than just buying one

i agree though we do need a standard laptop formfactor but it would need to be fairly large because of cooling issues and many people would want smaller ones...but i don't see a reason that companies couldnt make their own like they do on desktops with some of those tiny dells and such

Yeah, I also doubt you'd be saving any money... More than likely cost considerably more.
