Utilities on AOL (and others) CD install disks

AOL and others have various utilities on their disks...AOL version 9.0 has several versions of Internet Explorer on the CD.

Does anybody know if these AOL versions of IE would be modified by AOL to incorporate certain AOL proprieties?

I would archive the IE applications to use maybe if needed instead of a D/L if the apps are the same as those that come directly from MS.. I don't want anything modded by AOL.

AFAIK, what AOL includes is the IE engine to run their integrated browser, but in the process, it also updates your system browser. So technically, nothing is modified (you won't get a "MIE Provided by AOL", if that's what you're worried about).

However, if you want an archive copy of IE, just order the free Microsoft Update Disc.

I think the only difference is that IE would then be titled "PAGE NAME - Internet Explorer provided by AOL" or something like that. The little activity icon would probably be the AOL symbol also.

Okedoke... thanks. I am just in the process of canning some extra CDs I have onhand.. I generally pic up any CDs at the Post Office and else where to check them out for utilities. This new AOL CD has several versions of IE apparently, or at least they have a different byte total. I have extra hard drive space I am setting up on a USB external just for such as this, and I thought I would just save those copies of IE for the heck of it, and yep.. I figure it would add something to the registry about AOL..but I have deleted that before...when I installed Juno, it added that to both IE and OE..."provided by Juno".. didn't take but a couple of minutes to edit that out of the registry.

As I said, the different byte size of the apparently same IE install has got me wondering.

Example:
There is a folder named AOL90... in that folder are the following IE installs.
Msie6198.exe <size> 12,622,598
Msie12k.exe <size> 11,733,135

Folder AOL80/Browsers/Msie.
Msie6me.exe <size> 8,941.636
Msie698.exe <size> 15,017,344
Msie62k.exe <size> 11,578,322

There are two more folders, AOL40 and AOL60 that do not contain any versions of IE. There are two setup.exe..one is for dsl and the other is for general install I think.

Sometimes I just feel like I'm not getting my point across.

What they've done is put old versions of AOL/IE on the disk so if your system doesn't work with 9.0, you can still install an older version.

That sounds reasonable...but why name them all with a 6?...like Msie6198, Msie6me, Msie698, Msie62k...its as if these are all IE 6.0 versions...

Whatever.. I think I will just create a folder on this archive drive and copy all of thes to there...and chunk the CD..

Thanks
