Many insiders I have talked to expect the desktop and mobile "Centrino" processor line at Intel will converge upon release of Merom.
Merom is suspected of being a Intel "Pentium 5" mobile variant. The term "Pentium 5" is relative, as the product name is set by the marketing division, not by the research and development division. The marketing "gurus" could call it a Pentium 10000 FX for all we know.
Merom will be a 90nm mobile processor, though a counterpart desktop chip will likely be issued around the same timeframe. I have not yet acquired the desktop project name.
Following Merom will be Gilo. Gilo will be a 65nm refinement of the Merom core.
As to the chipset, it appears Crestine will be the mobile offering.
A chipset only indentified as Gilo is also present, though it is strange for Intel to name both a processor and chipset the same. It can likely be assumed Gilo is really a total project development name.
