Yes, from what I have heard and read in articles and magazines I think Intel will make a next generation of processors. Not sure though if they will call it a Pentium 5

I found the article I was looking for. Its super interesting, at least IMO. Here is the link to it. And from reading I think the Pentium 5 (or Pentium V) will be a 64-bit based processor.

Quote:
The Pentium V is likely to fly along at between 5GHz to 7GHz, have 2MB plus of level two cache, be built on a 90 nanometer process, and have a stackable design.
Awesome! But not sure if a reality in the future..

ah I see. that is interesting.

dang 7GHz. Thats pretty good.

64-bit? Doesn't the 4 have that? I would think they would make like 128 bit or something if its gonna be the next generation processor.

Btw
You have been repling to all my threads today.

Haha yes, I like gerbil threads
Well no, they are still in process in developing the Pentuim 4 in 64-bit environment. So is the whole world doing, evolving and changing for the 64-bit environment, since its totally made for 32-bit nowadays. So the 128-bit processor will take a while until its available, but thats my guess. But 7GHz is really good, agreed.

i heard that they were thinking about making the prescott p5...mabey they will when it comes out in the socket T...I hope there is a consumer version 64 bit realesed then...if not then the tejas core might be a p5

however i think going to 64-bit would be a good time to change the name of the cpu...i don't think they will though because a large part of the under educated market knows the name pentium and dosent know any difference between the willamate northwood and prescott cores

lol

But AMD already has 64-bit, right?

but I agree with the 128-bit. That will take a while.

Many insiders I have talked to expect the desktop and mobile "Centrino" processor line at Intel will converge upon release of Merom.

Merom is suspected of being a Intel "Pentium 5" mobile variant. The term "Pentium 5" is relative, as the product name is set by the marketing division, not by the research and development division. The marketing "gurus" could call it a Pentium 10000 FX for all we know.

Merom will be a 90nm mobile processor, though a counterpart desktop chip will likely be issued around the same timeframe. I have not yet acquired the desktop project name.

Following Merom will be Gilo. Gilo will be a 65nm refinement of the Merom core.

As to the chipset, it appears Crestine will be the mobile offering.

A chipset only indentified as Gilo is also present, though it is strange for Intel to name both a processor and chipset the same. It can likely be assumed Gilo is really a total project development name.

intel has planned to reach 5ghz this year but i think it will probally only be able to go to 5ghz...last i heard the tejas core was sceduled for q2 2005 so i wouldn't expect 7gz untill late 2005 at the earliest

but true that 350mhz could use an upgrade, which with something that old probally means a complete system overhaul...if you have the money
