i'm suffering router stress out

i have verizon dsl modem connected to a d-link 604 router.

i have 3 boxes all running win2k pro.(all fresh installs now).

now for the problems--

i can connect to the internet on all 3.

i can not use the windows update on any of them. but i can use the windows update if i connect the box directly into the dsl modem. i had to do this to each 1 individually so the i could update them.

i can't send out email in outlook express.

i can't post to this forum or any others that i visit.
i can post to the forum if i connect the box directly to the modem.

can anybody help me fix these problems?

robin

Are you running Zone Alarm or some other software firewall?

Can you list some of the other settings (but not the IP) on your router?

make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router

to find out type "http://192.168.0.1" into your web browser without the quotes

checked DHCP is enabled on the router. i have released/renewed

i have reset the router.

i have powered down the router and powered it back up and still no change.

could this be something that my ISP is doing to block me from connecting more than 1 system?

my son told me that he called verizon to get them to help him set up the email and they asked him if the system was connected to a router and he said yes.

wish he had of told me that he was going to call them before he made the call.

have you tried looking in the advanced settings of the router and see if it has mac address cloning and then setting the router up to clone one of the MAC addy's of the boxes that do work on the internet?

because if the ISP is blocking the router they do it by blocking the MAC address

i did ipconfig /all from a command prompt and wrote down the mac address.

the mac address that the router shows is different from the box that i'm on now.

can i change the mac address in the router to the one of the box that i'm on now?

if i can do this then after i change the numbers i click on the clone address button on the router?

yeppers... that would then tell you if the ISP was being a pain and blocking the router.. you will probably have to power cycle the modem and the router after you set up the mac address cloning in the router...

(edit BTW what is up with you and neo both having router problems @ the same time??)
