Newbie with some questions

hi everyone...as you see i'm new to the forum...just have a couple of questions or need advice from the expert...

1. I'm looking to get a laptop pretty soon (tax refund), and my budget is around $800-1G max...what should I be looking for and what should I stay away from (pentiuem, celeron etc...)

2. I also want to network my new laptop going wireless...which wireless router is the best for the bucks (802.11b or 802.11g). thanks

well my brand prefs would be dell or toshiba....pentuim 4's are tons better than celerons but if all you will be using it for is office/internet then a celeron will be fine and is less $ it all depends on what you will be using it for

as for wifi a b connection can carry broadband internet just fine but you will want g if you intend to be moving large files across a network frequently

thank you for the quick reply...my primary usage is internet 90%, and 5% is for gaming, 5% music listening (downloading).

i'm currently in a one bedroom apartment 800 sq feet...so B should do the job? thanks agian

If your gaming, you might want G for the transfer speeds.

I reccomend Toshiba. Their labtops are great, and their build quite sold.

1. I would go for an IBM, but they are expensive. Go for a Dell or a Toshiba instead. Great notebooks for a nice price. Stay away from Celeron and Duron in a notebook. Go for something like Pentium 4M or Centrino. Even a Athlon XPM is a nice choice.
2. 802.11b

Saw a thing on laptop processors on techtv and they said the best intel is the pentium m (not 4m). 4m and m are 2 different processors.
