Welcome to TechIMO!!

Sounds like you may have one of those "new and improved" copy protected CD's which won't play in a PC but will play in a CD player.

Make sure your CDROM is set to play digital CDs. I don't know what OS you are running but if it's win98 go to the control panel/multimedia/CD Music, make sure it lists the right CDROM and check the enable digital CD audio box. :-)

Digital Audio just sends the music across the data bus rather than through the analog audio cable - it just might be possible that the analog cable was left off, came unconnected or is connected to the wrong connector on the sound card.
Or as 'Bill in SD' said problems with copy protection. Perhaps a firmware update for your drive might be in order. Or a media player update to deal with mixed media CDs.
. I think that Philips (co-creator of the CD format) said that the various audio CD copy protection schemes violate the design guidelines and may not play in some players. And it that the music companies kept it up, Philips would design their drives/players to crack the protection schemes...

Nice link Bill. I wasn't aware these ridiculous copy protection schemes are actually preventing people from simply playing their CDs...when will it end?
