Systems Cleared BIOS, black screen now!

Compaq Presario 5360
Motherboard #120694-101

Anybody know about Compaqs?

Mine was working fine till I decided to go back to the onboard video.
Pulled out the video card, restarted, but no video!

Put the addon back in, screen up, entered BIOS, changed to onboard video.
Restarted, no work. Did the same with 2 other different video cards.
AND 2 other monitors. No go.
So, I cleared the CMOS, to force a restart back at default.

No such luck, still no video, even when I put the add on video card back in.

Now all I get is a black screen!

Sounds like it's starting OK, no beeps or indications of a problem.
Just a black screen, that's all.

Thanks,
John.

Are you still able to get into the BIOS at POST?

It sounds like a power to the monitor problem. Mine shows a "no signal" or something screen when disconnected.

Is the screen showing the start up sequence at all? If not, the monitor is getting zero signal from the MB. Pull off the reset jumper and set it to clear and wait a few minutes. You should get something.

Also, inspect the pins on the video cable to make sure one isn't bent and not making contact. And you plug the monitor into another computer?

Can you boot to safe mode and get video?. Apparently you can get to your bios so you got video there. Whenever you change your video cards (onboard or not) it's best to configure your video to basic (640 x 480 at 16 colors or 256 color) before making changes.

Since I first reset the BIOS, I have never been back in.
Nor have I seen anything come up on any monitor.

Tried re-setting the BIOS again, no luck.
Tried several different (I know that work) monitors, vid cards.
Tried several hard drives too . . .
different ribbon wires

Checked the BIOS jumper, if it's in the wrong spot, the board will not power on. I did clear it again.

No I cannot boot safely into anything.

Here's what happens.

I turn it on by plugging in the power cord. (If I reset the BIOS, the on button works)
Box power indicator light comes on.
Hard drive powers up.
black screen
Have to unlpug it to turn it off.

Thanks,
John.

Think I'll check all board pin switches next.

Any other ideas?

Checked all mobo pin switches, they're all OK.
Tried a different stick of mem, nothing . . .
Tried a totally different vidcard, nada.
Tried different a: and c: drive ribbon cables

Could the onboard video have been blown somehow?
If so, there is NO way to see the BIOS to change it
to add on video cars.

Hopefully, somebody has dealt with this.

Thanks,
John.

If it were me, I would suspect a blown MB channel and would RMA it or replace it.

Have you called Compaq? They may have some ideas to try.

Also will the system restore disk boot up and show anything?

I think you may have reached the end of the road...
