HP Scanjet 4200C

Has anyone been able to get this scanner to work in XP? I am ready to make technology art by throwing it against the wall.

I wrote to HP and they said to shut down the pc and unplug the power and connection port 2-4 times. I got it work once, but since then nothing. I also downloaded the supposed XP upgrade of the software, but nothing works

Not familier with model. Is it a USB connection or an older parallel port connection? BTW. Welcome to Techimo!

Did you try letting XP set up your scanner? I have an old Microtek scanner that uses the printer port. Even with new drivers, I couldn't get XP to work with the scanner. Here is what I did.

Go into control panel and then to "printers and other hardware". Click on that, and go to cameras and scanners. Follow the prompts and see if that works for you. It worked for me. Good luck.

I know what you mean. I was a loyal HP customer for years. Never thought I would own a printer that wasn't a Hewlett Packard. Well, the last 2 printers I had from them totally sucked. I also had a horrible experience with their customer service when a CD Burner I had bought from them turned into a coaster maker after 3 months. The final blow was a digital camera I got a few years ago for my youngest daughter. It still works, but when I upgraded to Windows XP last summer, the drivers no longer worked. Went to HP's website to seek new drivers. There were none for download, but I could purchase a CD, pay for shipping and wait 4-6 weeks for delivery. This was for a file that couldn't have been any larger than a meg or two. Guess they needed the money. Goodbye HP! I finally did get the driver from some kind soul who had uploaded it to drivers.com.

Robert

PS
Did you try HP's customer service? Just curious. I would like to hear what your experience was if you did.
