That 865 chipset should support DDR RAM. You can check the poduct on the Gigabyte website for which DDR it will support, (PC2100, PC2700, etc.).

Looks like Dual Channel capable, so you might want to get 2 sticks of PC3200 DDR (184-pin) SDRAM. it should also accept PC2700 and PC2100 as well, depending on your budget. 256MB sticks of PC3200 (400 mHz) should go for around $50 - $60 per stick.
The first P4 boards supported Rambus RDRAM RIMM memory. I believe this was just for the Intel 850 chipset.
Actually I just ordered 2 x 256 MB sticks of Rambus for a customer's 850 P4 set up. About $230, which is double,(quadruple?), the current pricing of DDR.
