tv tuner card

i am thinking about a tv tuner card and want to learn how well they work before going ahead and buying one--will i be able to watch local tv channels with a tuner card or is it more complex than that--im running a p3 800 with 384mb pc133 a 32mb video card and right now windows 98se

It might bog down your system (when you actually turn on the TV tunner) but you should be able to watch your local TV shows just fine... so basically... if you want to see what you would get with the tunner card plug your TV directly into your cable output without any cable boxes you got from your Cable compnany and that is what you would get unless you got a box for your TV which I did. I choose to do this because I also order the movie channels and such and I am not able to get these channels without my cable companies extra box on top of my PC. I also found that it gives me better reception. However, I still got good reception without it for most channels... some were a little fuzzy but Im sure if I played with the settings it would go away. I use a ATI TV Wonder Pro. $80 Direct from ATI but you can find it for about $50 on E-bay and the net. For safe measure, be sure to check all the system requirements of the TV Tunner card before handing over the money
