OC 2800 XP help please urgent

Hi there, i'm not a newbie as such at o/c but i am rather stuck with this... my system

Sparkle nforce2 400 ultra mobo
1gig 3200 ddr 400 ram
radeon 9600xt
160gig hd 7200rpm 8mb c
450 watt dual fan psu
extractor fan on see thru pvc panel
fan inside and the one on cpu and psu
zorro black atx case
xp 2800 thoroughbred

problem im having....ive heard xp 2800 tbred are decent overlclockers but im not having much luck....
in my bios i have no options for multiplyers to increase to 14 etc..alls i have n option for it to change FSB from 166 up until 250
and likewise with ram settings...anytime i increase this my computer just bleeps and will not come on i simply have to reset cmos via jumper... my mobo says it supports overclocking and the fans/hardware ive got i feel i should be able to at least hit 2.3ghz
an y tips helps ?? also whats a good overclocker for radeon as i do not like the hercules utility.....could my cpu fsb be locked ??
thanks

Your cpu is almost certainly multiplier locked, so you will only be able to adjust FSB speed. 2.3gHz is pretty aggressive straight away.

First, I'd suggest bumping your vDIMM +0.2 or +0.3 volts. If you have very aggressive ram timings, back off a bit (e.g., set command to T2 instead of T1, etc.), then boost your FSB by 5mHz and boot. Run some stability/burn-in programs. Repeat until not stable, then boost your vCORE by +0.25 or +.50 volts and see if stable. Repeat incrementally as many times until you find out what your processor and ram can handle. Keep an eye on CPU temps.

You should be able to get to 175-180mHz FSB with little problem... things can begin to get dicey from there.

If you already know all this, and have tried it, then we need more info on any specific errors or problems you are getting.

it also sounds like you have an on-board thermometer with an automatic shut-off when it gets to a certain temp... the default temp on most mobo's is WAY below AMD specifications... check out your max allowable temp on AMD's website for your CPU, and adjust your temp allowance (or disable it completely if youre staying well below max) in the bios.
