Ok. Let me try and get this. Both of my PC's have 2 slots for RAM? So for example if i wanted 256mb of RAM on my Presario I would have to chunk the 96mb ram that it came with and insert 2x128mb RAM sticks? If that is the case then would I be left with a 96mb RAM stick? Could I possibly put the old 96mb stick into the gateway? I know that is probably not possible but just checkin!

No the Gateway uses Buffered ram and the Compaq doesn't. They are not interchangeable.

I have a Pack Bell 166 with 32MB ram and Windows ME,and it runs as good as the 133 and win 98SE.So that may be another option for ya.

Anyone know what the biggest CPu is for this board?Maybe you can dump a K6/2 CPU in it and make it better.

Went to crucial.com and the 128mb Ram stick for my presario was 56$. Kinda steep i think. I aslo tried looking for RAM for my Gateway there but I guess they're all out. I only have one question. Should I find a ram for my Gateway is it Dimms or Simms? One guy said it was simms and one said it was Dimms.

Could'nt I just walk into BEst Buy and get a 128mb PC100 ram from my Presario though? When I go to these big RAM vendors and find the exact RaM they always seem to be real steep prices or is 56$ what a 128mb of ram costs?

Both of your pcs use Dimms.

Yes you can get your ram for the compaq at BB. The ram for your gateway, though, needs to be buffered. Not sure if you can get that at BB.

Ok if you look at that it says that the Maximucm memory for my gateway is 128 i think you said it was 256 and the bigest size of RAM that will fit into that would be 2x64 instead of 2x128. I guess I could manage buying the 64 MB stick for $34.99 but there is still a warning there about how the system can take more than one memory depending on my motherboard. Is that really an issue or are the chances that this specific ram stick is compatible good? It pretty much looks dead on to me. The search came back after looking for 100% Compatible Upgrades For Your Gateway P5-166 XL w/ DIMMS. They say to visit gateway support or to just give them a call to varify memory type. I don't understand what more they're going to varify because that looks like it's pretty much it? Should I call them before I purchase the RAM? I've tried gateway but I'm having trouble searching with in their database with my Gateways serial number. It apparently is too short or something. Anyway gonna go get a 12-inch subway, Italian B.M.T. with spicy mustard and mayonise. "I'm so depressed." -Chunk

BTW There is a 128mb PC100 memory stick at Best Buy for 19.99. Of course there is a 12$ rebate and a 5$ mail in rebate and all that bull. The actual price is is about 36$. I think im gonna go for that one for my Persario. Thanks.

Seems like PC's are falling out of the sky for me. Today my brother and his co-worker were given a Dell Dimension 2100. I was sitting in the front yard and I noticed an opened metal box with wires haning out of it on the floor near my trash can. It was the Dell with the case open just sitting on the ground like a piece of junk ready to be thrown away. I thought it was a old VCR or something but when I turned it over I realized it was a damn computer! It's still has everything on it. CD Drive which i think might be a CD-RW, hard disk drive, hard drive. Basically the only thing that looks to be missing was the IDE cable and the power cable. Wow thats two computers in one week. It's got a Celeron Processor and apparently it's for use with WIndows XP. I don't even have XP on my Presario! So now I'm just brimming with what I should do with it. It was given away by my brothers company to him becasuse I guess it was 'broken' but us tech geeks know better. I'm thinking of taking it to a computer shop and seeing just what I could do with it. Any suggestions? I even looked around for a Memory stick in there to possible put into my Presario but I think it has the builtin kind. THx.
