Slot 1 CPU question

Is a P-II 350 @ 66FSB a different processor then a P-II 350 @ 100FSB ?
I can't find any numbers on this Intel slot 1 motherboard LX chipset but it is running a P-II 266 right now so I assume it will run up to a 350 @ 66FSB. I have a P-II 350 but it's a 100FSB processor and I want to know if it will work, or is the highest I can go it a P-II 333.

I believe the highest you can go with a PII is 333 on a 66-MHz bus. The 350-MHz chip may work but at the same multiplier, it will only go up to 233 (doh!). Your best bet for that board is to get a Celeron with a Slotket converter (about $50 for both). That way you can go up to a C700 running on a 66-MHz board.

I just did a google search on that chipset and it said it will only support up to a celeron 433....hmmmm.
I guess that is what I need to do cause a P-II 333 isn't much of an upgrade.
Thanks much osprey4

yeah,,,unfortunately the "lx" isnt all that upgradeable.

it is true that celeron can go to 733 or 766 (cant remember which) on a 66mhz bus....BUT I am not sure that an lx will support it as far as proper voltages etc. I have a gateway slot1 board with lx chipset and have never gotten a slocket to work on it.

That's what this is, a gateway, I need to check that out. I have a cellery 366 on a slocket I could use.
Thanks John Prophet.

Well it might work with a "ppga" celly..such as your 366...but would it work with a "fcpga" such as a 733.

I think ppga's went up to 500 or 533ish...of course on 66mhz fsb.

If you were lucky it might support a 533. (I am sort of doubtful though, lol)

If not..motherboard/cpu combos are dirt cheap now. for instance---> http://3btech.net/gigaddroemmo.html

i think the problem you will run into is that the chipset won't be able to do the multiplier you will need for the higher ones

Omardeth, I think you are right, my google search showed it to only support up to a 433 celeron.
