Systems damn ti-4200!

i have always used and loved nvidia cards but i cant for the life of me run " curse, the eye of isis" right after the few spalsh screens of dreamcatcher games, the intro plays and i get that lovely black screen with a big fat " invalid scan frequency" with crazy lines all over the place.

for sh!ts and giggles i called dreamcatcher and the woman i spoke to offered nothing different than what i have already tried.

from the newest nforce chipset drivers for my epox 8rda+, to 3 different nvidia drivers, to even trying a different monitor, plus reinstalling dx9b, im lost.

i hate when games dont work out of the box. im sure its a driver/hardware issue with the geforce 4 ti-4200. i had this problem back a while with GTA 3 and my old geforce 256 but was solved with service pack 1. this is on XP btw.

What is your screen refresh rate set to? Possibly set it up/down?

Haven't had any problem with any games out of all 3 Nvidia cards I've owned. On the computer I'm on atm, it's a GeForce 4 MX 440 using 43.45 Dets and DX9b. Maybe your Ti 4200 could use a RMA if all else fails.

i forgot to mention i leave my refresh rate at the default of 60. i have tried 75 as well. i thought it might have been something with my kvm switch so i tried it straight into my pc with a different monitor even with no luck. i dont think an RMA is really needed since any other game i run has no issues.

I think it might be your refresh rate and your drivers coming into play. Have you installed the newest monitor driver?
The dets and forceware drivers will not work with a refresh rate your monitor does not support.
There maybe a way to fix this, but if you have forced refresh rates, make sure for the default res they are correct otherwise the screen may go blank.
Also try a 30.xx det and see if it works.
While I have seen a few games not work correctly for some people. this could be one of those things, I know someone who cannot use big mother truckers and he has tried an ati or nvidia card. I am thinking it is the company who made the game.

If not, then maybe look for an ini file and change the graphics setting yourself to fix this, it would be loaded in the games directory.

I have several 4200's, maybe try to back up to an older driver. I always had good luck with the 40.xx - 43.xx drivers. Also try the Det destroyer. http://download.guru3d.com/pafiledb....=0&sortby=date

to be honest, in the past i think i have tried to find a driver for my sun 19' monitor but id have better luck hitting mega millions tonight.

i will try looking at the .ini file although im not sure what to change it too, guess ill have to fiddle with it. thanks for the link to the det destoyer, i have btw tried 3 different drivers. i gave the 43.45, 52.16, and 53.03's a try with no luck. its tough when you buy a game and it dont work out of the box. makes you wish you bought a radeon.

but i digress................

edit: is it just me or are the det destroyers only for 98 and ME? they dont work on xp.

thanks for all the help. i got it running by using the 43.03 drivers. problem is now, i cant change my desktop resolution to 1150x(i forget the correct numbers here)

i can change to other like 8x6, 1024x768 but the next highest is like 1280x1024 which is too much for my eyes. i cant win.

i guess i can keep trying different drivers until i get what i want eh?

From what i've been reading latley you should stick with the older det drivers. Apparently people have been having problems with the newer 'optimized' dets and reporting performance loss.
Ive been running the 43 drivers with no problems since they've been out.
