Laptop power but no screen image.

I just was trying to fix my laptop that broke. When I turn it on the fan spins for 1 second and then shuts off. The power light is on. When I push the power button again both battery lights come on. Then if i hold the button for 5 seconds the laptop will shut off. Kinda stumped here dont know what to try next.

When you power it up, try shining a flashlight at the screen at an angle. If you can see a ghost of the image that should be there, then the backlight for the display might be burned out, or possibly the inverter that powers it. Also, if you have an extra monitor laying around, you could try plugging it into the VGA port on the back of the lappy and see if you get a display.

Yeah I plugged the monitor in nothing. Tried the flashlight and also nothing. Im just trying to get anything on the screen. Called sony and they said to charge my battery for 24 hours. But why wouldnt it work just plugged into the wall? Would it matter if I had no harddrive or cdrom installed?
